William "Bill" Ortman, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and beloved member of the Central Oregon community, passed away on May 20, 2025, at the age of 71.

Born on January 9, 1954, Bill was the son of Floyd and Marge Ortman and the younger brother of Van. He grew up in Forest Grove and graduated from high school there, later spending time in Alaska before returning to Oregon to marry his high school sweetheart, Julie Hendricks, in 1976.

Shortly after their marriage, Bill and Julie moved to Sunriver, Oregon, where they built a life and raised their three children: Jacob, Grant, and Caitlin. Bill became a fixture in the Central Oregon community, known for his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication as a remodeling contractor in Sunriver for over 30 years. He founded several businesses and was respected not only for his craftsmanship but for his integrity and kindness.

Bill had a lifelong passion for music. A talented drummer and percussionist, he performed with numerous ensembles, including the Cascade Winds Symphonic Band, Central Oregon Symphony, Cascade Horizon Band, and the Notables Jazz Band. He cherished the opportunity to make music with his son and granddaughters.

In 2022, Bill and Julie retired to Keizer, Oregon, where Bill continue to perform as a percussionist with community bands.

Bill loved traveling the world and connecting with people from all walks of life, wearing a hat of his beloved Oregon Ducks. His warmth, humor, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Julie; his brother, Van; his children, Jacob, Grant, and Caitlin; his grandchildren, Hannah, Michelle, Beau, and Regan; and his great-grandchildren, Madeline and Matilda.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable life.

Contributions can be made in his name to the Central Oregon Symphony or Cascade Winds Symphonic Band or to a music program in your local community.
