Robert Leon Carter

The world lost a dedicated family man, a proud veteran, and a true outdoorsman on August 20, 2026, when Robert "Bud" Leon Carter passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 86.

Born on September 2, 1939, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Bob lived a life centered on duty, hard work, and the people he loved. He honorably served in the US Army from 1956 to 1959. Bud was also a longtime resident of Valsetz, Oregon, and he always looked back with special fondness on the years spent living, working, and raising his family in that tight-knit community. Bud spent the last forty years residing in Mill City, Oregon.

Bud's legendary love for hunting started when he was just a boy in Pawhuska. He grew up hunting rabbits and squirrels, famously using his pet goat to pack his bounty out of the woods. That childhood spark became a lifelong passion. When he wasn’t working, Bud was out in the wilderness, spending decades tracking bear, cougar, elk, deer, bobcat, and even raccoons alongside his trusted hound dogs. Bud was well known for mentoring and sharing his enthusiasm and deep knowledge of hunting with both friends and neighbors. He always said yes to anybody who was interested in hunting with him, leaving so many people with vivid and cherished memories of their outdoor adventures with him.

Bud was faithfully dedicated to the care of family, opening arms and home to raise granddaughter, Stacey, and great granddaughter, Keyaira, and providing haven for many others over the years. Bud was a believer in Jesus Christ and knew the gospel, a faith that anchored him throughout his life journey.

Bud is now reunited with his beloved wife of 57 years, Norma Carter; his daughter, Katherine Carter; and his brothers, Herbert and Donald Carter.

He leaves behind his wife, Irma Brosig, whose loving dedication to his health and well-being brought him comfort during his difficult decline. He is survived by his children, Karl Carter and his wife Nancy, Karen Carter, and Kimberly Carter; his siblings, Jerald Carter and Donna Shannon; and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

His family will privately mourn his passing and celebrate his memory.
