Phyllis Jean Kaliher, age 81, was born on October 28, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, and was called home to Jesus on March 3, 2026, in Salem, Oregon.
She was the beloved daughter of Price Redwin Peniston and Vada Virginia Hanna Peniston, and the second of three children. Throughout her life, Phyllis called many places home, including Idaho, California, and Oregon, though some of her fondest memories were made in Boise, Idaho.
Phyllis lived a full and vibrant life, marked by a variety of meaningful experiences and accomplishments. Over the years, she worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, WinCo Foods, and served as a legislative lobbyist. She also owned and managed Pepperwood Springs Vineyards in Anderson Valley on California’s North Coast—an achievement that reflected her strong spirit and determination.
She found great joy in the outdoors and loved hiking, horseback riding, reading, music, and classic films. Phyllis also had a deep love for animals, especially her faithful dogs, Moki and Sandi, who held a special place in her heart for many years.
Known for her sweet disposition and unfiltered honesty, Phyllis was never one to seek attention or fuss. She lived simply and sincerely, often reminding those around her with her favorite saying: “That was then, this is now.”
Phyllis was a dear friend to many and cherished several lifelong friendships.
She is survived by her sister, Juanita Bischoff, and her brother, Robert Peniston.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Vada and Price Peniston, and her loving and adventurous husband of fifty-two years, Gary Edward Kaliher.
She will be remembered for her wit, her easygoing nature, and her vibrant, loving spirit. May her journey continue in peace as she moves on to her next great adventure.
