Celebrating a Gentle, Adventurous, and Spirited Life

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished son, Matthew Joseph Kew, who bravely faced Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Surrounded by family and friends, Matthew found comfort in their steadfast love and support.

Matthew was known for his gentle, quiet nature, often reserved and shy, yet his mischievous smile always revealed a playful spark. As a Life Scout in BSA, he was a true adventurer at heart, whose wanderer's spirit led him to explore new horizons across the United States alongside his parents.

Laura and Bill were constantly trying to find new places for Matthew to travel where he could experience as much as their Toyota Sienna and his motorized wheelchair could navigate. Sometimes they pushed the limits on both, but these happenstances are now fond memories of the boundaries Matthew was willing to push through. Matthew had a deep love for animals as was reflected in his custom painted bedroom. But perhaps nothing brought him more excitement than the thrill of speed-he loved driving fast and had a passion for race cars. Some of his happiest moments were spent playing Forza, admiring cool cars at car shows or riding UTVs, where his laughter and enthusiasm were contagious. Despite the challenges he faced, Matthew thrived at what he could do and developed a web of lasting friendships through gaming, connecting with others in ways that brought him fulfillment and joy. His kindness, courage, and zest for life inspired all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving parents, Laura and Bill; his sister, Serena (Rachel); Grandma, Helen Maple McCall and Grandfather, John William McKay, his Aunts & Uncles; Angela (Dave) Cesar, Maria (Randall) Kooistra, Lindsey

(Jeff) Wineland, Joanna (John) Tjaden, Stewart Laughlin, Grace Laughlin, his cat, Jack Black (Blackjack), and a large extended family who will forever hold Matthew close in their hearts. He now joins his beloved Grandpa Joe Forliano and Grandma Angie Forliano (Piscopo) in Heaven.

Though our hearts ache and we can't help but wish we had been given more time with Matthew, we find comfort in knowing that he is now with those who have been patiently waiting to welcome him home.

We honor his journey and the moments he shared, grateful for the laughter, warmth, and inspiration he brought to our lives.

A memorial service will be held at a future day welcoming friends and family to gather and celebrate Matthew's legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to organizations supporting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research or to an animal rescue of your choice.

Rest in peace, dear Matthew. Your wings were ready but our hearts were not.
