Marilyn Jean Goodwin

April 7, 2026 — June 5, 1950

Salem

Marilyn Goodwin was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her husband, David Goodwin; four children, Kelly, Paul, Adam, and Jeffrey; and seven grandchildren.

She grew up in Southern California, graduating from high school a week after her 18th birthday and marrying David just three weeks later. The day after their June 1968 wedding, David and Marilyn moved to Oregon, where they were both awestruck by the natural beauty of the state. They were overjoyed to begin welcoming children to their family in 1974 and bought their first home in Salem in 1978.

Marilyn developed a wide array of interests and talents. She was a gifted seamstress and quilter, an artist with a keen eye for color. She was also a beautiful singer, an avid reader, an excellent writer, a naturally gifted teacher, and a brilliant home chef and baker. She memorized hundreds of campfire songs and loved leading large groups in song. Her imagination and creativity were boundless, and she filled her family home with music and laughter.

She brought her many gifts and energetic devotion to decades of volunteer leadership with the Boy Scouts of America, to refereeing high school volleyball games, and to serving in many leadership roles as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She gave her all, inspired and touched the lives of countless others, led by example, and raised the quality of every endeavor she participated in.

Marilyn especially loved nature, flowers, and children. Among her most cherished memories were snorkeling in Hawaii hand in hand with her husband David, and summers directing Camp Nee-Deep. Marilyn was, and always will be, deeply loved by her entire family.
