It is with hearts full of gratitude for a life well-lived we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Lawrence Lee Armstrong on September 5th, 2024 at the age of 92. Born in 1931, in Dayton, Ohio, Lawrence served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1951 as an air traffic controller. Feeling the call of God to full-time ministry, Lawrence attended Baptist Bible College in Johnson City, New York. It is there that he met his wife, Jacqui Bong, with whom he enjoyed 64 years of marriage before Jacqui went to be with the Lord in 2019. Lawrence and Jacqui served with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism in both the Philippines and Australia. Following these assignments, Lawrence and Jacqui served as Missionaries at Large travelling to over 30 countries mentoring and encouraging other missionaries. Lawrence also taught in the Asia Bible Theological Seminary teaching post-graduate classes throughout Southeast Asia.
Lawrence will be remembered for his energy, optimism and cheerfulness but most of all for his love of others and firm belief in the power of the gospel to transform lives. A memorial service will be held 11am Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Salem, Oregon.
