It is with sorrowful hearts that the family of Lane Ernest Kinder announce that he was enfolded into the arms of the Lord on November 4, 2024.
He was born on January 5, 1947 and spent a lifetime trying to leave the world a better place than he found it. He proudly served in the army during the Vietnam War where he used his technical skills well and later expanded on this passion to work on radios and other tech for various companies, including the aerospace industry from which he eventually retired. An avid ham radio operator, Lane was no stranger to inviting others into his life for a good conversation no matter how near or far. In fact, nobody was a stranger to Lane.
He took his faith, career, and role as husband and stepfather seriously, and yet, Lane was rarely without a smile or a joke to tell. He could easily elicit eye rolls from friends and family with his penchant for puns, his particular way of getting things done, and his insistence on driving at least 5 miles under the speed limit. Even in his final days, one could find him joking with the hospital staff.
Lane was a lover of all things nerdy: Star Wars, Star Trek, fantasy novels, and sci-fi stories were among his favorite topics of discussion. One could just as easily find him listening to a wide variety of music or cruising smoothly along a dance floor with his soulmate and wife of 31 years, Marie.
Lane held deep compassion for animals, especially cats; he adored his wife and her home cooking (Marie’s Kitchen was always his favorite restaurant), and he loved being a gentle, kind papa to his grandchildren, spoiling them as any good papa does.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; stepchildren, Sean, Chris, Maria, and Deanna; daughter, Sara; sister, Debbie; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lane’s absence is palpable; he is loved and missed beyond measure, and we are comforted knowing that he is now safely Home. Rest well, Lane.
