Jean Marie Evans was born on October 11, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the youngest of five children, three sisters and a brother. Cecilia is the only surviving family member.
She married Paul Majka in July of 1953 and over the next six years had three daughters, Cynthia, Sharon, and Pamela. They stayed in Chicago until 1968, where most of their family lived.
The Majka family moved to Southern California, where they worked and raised their girls until 1990 when Jean retired. They relocated to West Salem, Oregon where they enjoyed retirement. Their favorite past times were going to yard sales and working on various projects together, like building a complex train layout and doll house. They also loved dancing and socializing with friends at the Senior Center.
After Paul passed away in 2004, Jean prayed about how she could serve in the church. At age 70 she stepped out in faith and took on St. Joseph’s prison ministry. She did this for many years and loved sharing her faith with these men. Her gift was service to others within her family and church, and she brought great joy and happiness to others.
On Mother’s Day this year, at the age of 90, Jesus took her home. She is survived by her 3 daughters, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and 1 older sister. She was a blessing to many and will be greatly missed.
