The children of Dixie Ann (LaTourrette Cox) West are saddened to announce her passing on Sunday August 10, 2025. Dixie was born on 11/7/1950 and was 74 at the time of her passing. Her parents were Vera Atteburry LaTourrette and Wayne Charles LaTourrette Sr. She is survived by her three children, Tami Frazier, Anna Cox, and Wayne Cox. She was a loving grandmother to her two grandchildren, Arianna and Isabelle. She is also survived by her brother Charles LaTourrette.
Dixie was born in Ashland Oregon. She lived in many states over her life (Oregon, Idaho, California, Virginia, and Colorado), but considered Oregon her home. In 2009 she moved from Phoenix, Oregon to Salem, Oregon to be nearer to her children.
Dixie was twice married and survived the loss of both of her spouses. Her first husband and father of her children was Chester Leon Cox who passed away in 1982 in Sacramento, CA. Later, she married Michael G. West where they lived in Phoenix, OR for many years. Michael was a great support for Dixie until he passed in 2022.
Dixie was a single mother after Leon’s death. She was a loving mother and always made sure her children were cared for. She took the family on fun vacations, camping, and hiking. She worked graveyard shifts in order to be around for her children during the evening. She sacrificed much for her family and her children recognize all she did.
Dixie was a registered nurse. She worked in the post-operative floor in hospitals, where she loved the complexity and pace. Dixie was a very compassionate person with her family, patients, and even strangers. There are several instances where she brought friends into her home to care for them at the end of their lives.
Dixie liked to go camping and one of her favorite places to camp was at the Lake of the Woods in Southern Oregon. Dixie enjoyed reading, country music, coast trips with her son, and had fun gambling once in a while. She was an animal lover and always had several dogs and cats. She loved to attend the Oregon State Fair with her family each year, having a lot of fun watching the shows, shopping the vendors, and eating the fun fair food.
Dixie was well-loved by all who knew her. She will be missed.
