Carol Jean Walther, born on December 20, 1945, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Oregon, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, in Salem, Oregon.
Carol spent her early years growing up in the Mid-Valley area, where she graduated from Central High School in Independence. After graduation, she married, started her family, and later made her home in Depoe Bay, where she opened a grocery store with her husband and managed the books. In 1976, she moved to Salem.
Her professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. Carol had a long career at Fred Meyer before retiring in 2005. Following this chapter of her career, she joined the Salem-Keizer School District, where she worked until her retirement in 2013.
Throughout her life, Carol was deeply family-oriented and enjoyed a wide range of activities. Camping with her children and grandchildren, spending time at the coast, and traveling to the mountains to play in the snow were just a few of the things she loved.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, Albert Lewellyn; her mother, Edna Hegberg; her brother, Philip Lewellyn; and her sister, Mary Doyle. She is survived by her loving children: sons Dean (Helen) Spreadborough and Daniel Spreadborough; daughters Cindy (Bruce) Hammond and Molly Walther; as well as 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Carol’s life was one of resilience and commitment to those around her. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
