Betty Jane Mummy

Betty Jane Mummy passed away at her home in Salem, OR after 90 years full of life and love. She is deeply missed by her family and her community of friends.

Born in 1936 to Robert Beauchamp Sr. and Thelma Buck in Oroville, CA, Betty was one of four sisters and two brothers who grew up in Murrieta and Temecula. As a teen, she scooped ice cream at the "Sub" in the Murrieta Hot Springs resort. Betty and her future husband were named Football King and Queen before graduating from Elsinore High School in 1954.

Betty, through her maternal great, great Grandmother, Mary Bradford Buck, was a descendant of Mayflower English Pilgrim Separatist and Compact signatory, William Bradford, former governor of Plymouth Colony.

In 1956, Betty married Arlie Gordon Mummy Jr. They were married for 70 years and together had three children. They briefly lived in Escondido and Oxnard, then put down roots in Lompoc, Santa Barbara, CA, Raleigh, NC, and in retirement, moved to Salem, OR.

Betty was an excellent baker and seamstress. Her life-sized Raggedy Ann and Andy costumes were modeled in the Lompoc Flower Festival Parade won second place.

She was an admired artist. As a Willamette Humane Society dog walker, Betty was able to utilize her lifelong ability to communicate and bond with animals. She also produced exceptional flower arrangements as a volunteer with the Queen of Angels parish Altar Society in Lompoc.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lorraine Freeman, Nancy Garcia and brother Arthur Beauchamp, and her beloved buff and white cocker spaniel “BJ’s English Muffin.” She is survived by husband Arlie (Gordy), her sister, Donna East of Grand Terrace CA, brother Robert (Val) Beauchamp Jr. of Arroyo Grande, son Steven (Valerie) Mummy of San Diego, daughters Julie Mummy and Lisa (Karl) Mummy-Wallig of Salem and grandson William of San Diego.

Betty’s family would like to thank First Call Home Health and Hospice for their excellent care and support.
